In that sense, I classify the Curse system as one of the more clever aspects of the game's design. Which given the random nature of the talent tree, seems like an intentional priority. it's a well designed mechanic that rewards changing up your strats between runs and forcing players out of their comfort zone (and thus to experience different play-styles). you have to weigh your options of risk vs reward on events threatening them, maybe tune your deck/talents to accommodate them and then alter your strategy accordingly.
